The Quality Mark is part of the Community Legal Service (CLS).  The aim of the CLS is to improve access, for the public, to quality information, advice and legal services through local networks of services supported by co-ordinated funding and based on an assessment of local needs. The Quality Mark is the quality standard that will underpin all CLS services, so that members of the public who need legal information, advice and other help can rely on receiving a quality assured service.

Law Society Family Panel

To become a member of the Law Society’s Family Panel, each and every Lawyer must apply for Panel membership by completing a detailed questionnaire which assesses their experience in family law.  After meeting the Law Society’s strict requirements and proving their in-depth legal knowledge and capability of dealing with clients in a skilful and considerate way, they will become a Panel Member.  This procedure must be repeated every five years otherwise membership will lapse.  When you see the Family Law Panel logo, you’ll know that the practitioner’s skills, knowledge and experience have been rigorously and independently assessed.

Panel members are expected to comply with the requirements of the Family Law Protocol.  The aims of the Family Law Protocol are to:

  • encourage a constructive and conciliatory approach to the resolution of family disputes
  • encourage the narrowing of the issues in dispute and the effective and timely resolution of disputes
  • endeavour to minimise any risks to the parties and/or the children, and to alert the client to treat safety as a primary concern
  • have regard to the interests of the children and long-term family relationships
  • endeavour to ensure that costs are not unreasonably incurred
