The Criminal Department comprises of Michael Whatley (Principal), Julia Gooch (Head of Department, Legal Executive and accredited police station representative) and Tish Whatley (P.A. to Department).

The Criminal Department is available in an emergency, when someone is arrested, twenty four hours a day; seven days a week. In this event, the following telephone numbers may be contacted:

The department deals with motoring and legally aided matters ranging from minor theft to the most serious charges.

If you have been requested to attend at a Police Station or have been bailed to return to a Police Station, then you may be entitled to free legal assistance whereby a legal advisor will attend with you at the Police Station. Call us on 01638 561133 to see how we can assist you.

If you have been summonsed or bailed to attend Court in relation to an offence, then you may be eligible for legal aid. Please telephone the Criminal Department on 01638 561133 to find out whether you qualify for legal aid.

If you do not qualify for legal aid, the Criminal Department also offers a fixed fee interview for £35.00 including VAT for a half an hour consultation. If further advice, assistance or representation is needed then this can be provided on a private basis.

We also carry out detective work to trace witnesses or obtain documents where it is necessary to ensure any defence is adequately explored. This can, in some cases, result in charges being dropped.
